N30 – SUNGAI PINANG
SiewKhim’s Pledge For the People
Lim Siew Khim has been with DAP Penang for 16 years. In those days, she was one of the only employed staff at the party headquarters in Penang. Since then, she has coordinated three elections with the party and was instrumental in the organization of the party’s election machinery. Evidently, Siew Khim has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the party and has proven to be an effective member and leader.
Her leadership abilities also led to her election as the DAP Wanita Penang Chief in 2010 in which she took her role seriously by spearheading the establishments of most of the DAP Wanita divisions throughout the state. Her success speaks for itself – indeed, she is well loved and well respected for her down-to-earth personality and her dedication to serve the public.
A mother to five children, she has been the epitome of female empowerment as she has risen to be one of the most capable leaders shown through the successes of party events throughout the state of Penang.
Siew Khim is an experienced party worker, having been twice elected as state committee member by 2008. She is also a dutiful councilor with the MPPP in charge of issues related to hygiene and licensing. As a member of the state committee, Siew Khim has been actively involved in pioneering and participating in restructuring and refurbishing markets and hawker centres to improve the cleanliness and user-friendliness of the markets. Amongst the markets that were improved upon under Siew Khim were Jelutong Market, Air Itam Market, Pulau Tikus Market and Kuantan Road Market.
Siew Khim’s continual support and commitment to the welfare of hawkers is also demonstrated through her contributions to promote the use of oil-filters for hawkers so as to improve the hygiene and cleanliness in Penang. Additionally, she also carries out interviews with hawkers monthly and has improved the efficiency of issuing licenses to hawkers to aid to-be hawkers in realizing their job opportunities more quickly.
Siew Khim’s active involvement in politics is borne out of her innate desire to realize fair and just governance in Malaysia. She believes that the power rests with the people and that the people should seize the power vested in them. A people’s government, she believes, is selected through clean and fair elections. The integrity of these elections would thus lead to a government that is truly representative of the people, one that has also a system of checks and balances to oversee the administration. As the chairman of the DAP Penang Wanita Chief, she also dedicates herself to the struggle for women’s rights. She believes that the fight for women rights is not to challenge the position of men, but is instead a quest to benefit the society as a whole.
As a member of the DAP and Pakatan Rakyat, Siew Kim not only promises to aid the plight of single mothers, she also pledges to work towards providing equal opportunity for all Malaysians in areas of economy, culture, education and politics. Furthermore, she wishes and hopes to build a Malaysia by the people, of the people and for the people.
